What is a universal tensile testing instrument and what are its uses?

Universal tensile testing instrument

A universal tensile testing instrument is used to test the mechanical properties (tensile, compressive, etc.) of specified specimens through the action of tensile, compressive, or transverse stress. The machine is so named because it can perform different tests on different types of materials. Various tests such as peel test, flex test, tensile test, flex test, friction test, and spring test can be performed by him using UTM. The universal testing instrument primarily consists of two main parts.

  • Loading Unit
  • Control unit
  • Loading Unit

A UTM loading unit consists of the following components:

  1. Load frame

The load frame of the universal testing machine is either single support or double support. The load frame consists of a table (where the specimen is placed for compression testing), an upper crosshead, and a lower crosshead.

  1. Upper and lower crossheads

The upper crosshead is used to clamp one end of the specimen. The lower crosshead of the load frame is a movable crosshead that can be adjusted in height by loosening or tightening the screws. Both crossheads have a tapered slot in the middle. This slot has a pair of serrated jaws designed to grip and hold the tensile specimen.

  1. Strain Scale

The relative movement of the lower and upper tables is measured with a strain scale attached to the loading unit.

The function of the universal testing machine

The main function of UTM is the testing of the mechanical properties of materials. The standard tests administered by UTM are:

  • Tensile Test
  • Compression test
  • Adhesion test
  • Pull-out test
  • Hysteresis Test

UTM can be used to test the respective displacements of a variety of materials including concrete, steel, cables, springs, steel wire and chains, slings, links, ropes, winches, and steel cords. A load-deflection diagram is obtained from the observations. It shows the load value on the Y-axis and the displacement on the X-axis. Displacement is actually the movement of the truss during load application. The stress-strain analysis, modulus of elasticity, and yield strength of the specimen can be determined from the load-deflection diagram.

The machine is operated by a hydraulic load transfer from the specimen to a separately housed load indicator. This system is ideal because it replaces power transmission through levers and knife edges, which are subject to wear and damage from impact impacts when specimens break. The load is applied by hydrostatically lubricated rams. Pressure from the master cylinder is transmitted to the cylinders of the pendulum dynamometer system housed in the control panel. The dynamometer cylinder is also self-lubricating. Pendulum deflection describes the absolute load on the specimen, and if the specimen suddenly breaks, the pendulum’s return motion is effectively damped, absorbing energy.

Application

  • Tensile test
  • Compression test
  • size test
  • cross test

Instructions for use

  • Testing should be performed in accordance with relevant standards or guidelines.
  • Attach the upper and lower pressure plates to the upper fixed head and lower table respectively. Place the sample on the bottom plate and grab it to set the zero point. Do not turn on the machine without connecting the point to the machine ground wire.
  • Be careful not to apply mains power before plugging in the cable connector.

With the above information, you get an idea of how to use a UTM and what are its uses. You can find several lab testing equipment manufacturers selling this product but always buy from a reputable brand like packing test.

DuckDuckGo Leverages Apple Tags to Attack Google

Published

on

DuckDuckGo is growing in users, and at the moment, it is being updated for iOS at the same time as it compares with Google and Chrome.

In these times, there seems to be an effort on users to take paths in which their privacy is reinforced. We have seen an example in the transfer of users that has been experienced between WhatsApp and Telegram, but some people move to other areas, such as search engines.

DuckDuckGo has been known for years as a search engine that prioritizes privacy and is constantly growing. It may not be the preferred option for those who shy away from Google, but it is one to consider. The well-known search engine is updated with the App Store privacy labels that offer information to know the data that the applications collect and something interesting has been published.

In DuckDuckGo, they have decided that they can use them in their favor despite having been against them first, and now they inform users that Chrome and Google are spying on them.

Through the Twitter account, DuckDuckGo has published a comparison of the data they collect compared to Google, and the same image already shows what most users probably knew.

  • After months of stalling, Google finally revealed how much personal data they collect in Chrome and the Google app. No wonder they wanted to hide it.
  • Spying on users has nothing to do with building a great web browser or search engine. We would know (our app is both in one).
  • – DuckDuckGo (@DuckDuckGo) March 15, 2021

DuckDuckGo does not collect user data. A large part of it is obtained and saved in Google, such as location, browsing history, financial information, search history, and many more, as recalled by 9to5Mac.

This onslaught is consistent with Apple’s intentions to improve user privacy and how it has been campaigning for a long time. The company wants the user to be the one who decides the data they share with the applications, not to let them be accessed by default, something that has especially bothered Google and Facebook.

In the end, it must be the same user who decides which applications and search engines he uses, what gains in results, privacy, and other aspects. And for that, it is positive to be able to access as much information as possible.

This is how Telegram’s voice channels work: ClubHouse for everyone!

Published

on

A few days ago, it was leaked that Telegram was working on functionality that would allow voice chats between several public group and channel members. A concept that ClubHouse has exploited and that has become popular among the people. With the new update, Voice Chats 2.0 is now available to all Telegram users.

With the new Telegram, update come voice channels with no limit of participants. That is why you can have moderate conversations on the topics you want, simply and without having to wait for an invitation, as is the case with ClubHouse.

However, the update not only comes with that option, but Voice Chats 2.0 is completed with functions such as recording of voice chats, lists of participants in rich format, possibility to ask for a turn (raise your hand), send invitations for speakers, and listeners, title voice chats and the option for public figures to join these voice chats as their channels.

One of the improvements that we see compared to what Telegram had been implementing is that participants’ limits in voice chats are removed. Public group and channel managers can now host voice chats for millions of listeners.

It is as if it were a live podcast that can be recorded, and you will have saved messages. This option to register will be public and marked with a red light next to its title.

They have implemented a dynamic of raising their hands for listeners to participate in the talks. In this way, an administrator will give way to the participant who has done that action.

It has also been facilitated to share chats with other users through direct invitation links that open the voice chat. These links can be sent to be directly administrator or listener (they join muted).

As we can see, many new features in this new version for both iOS and Android. If you want to enjoy these features, you have to update Telegram from the Play Store or the App Store.

Xiaomi could launch a Mi Mix with a flexible screen, prototype insight

Published

on

The Chinese company does not stop in the development and launch of devices. According to a leak, Xiaomi could relaunch its Mi Mix line with a new model with a flexible screen in direct competition with the Galaxy Fold.

The battle within the folding mobile segment seems to have been won by Samsung. It is the only company that offers mobile phones in the market with this technology with its Fold and Flip ranges.

Huawei Mate X was a good alternative, but the international stick of Google’s lack of services has slowed its push.

On this occasion, Xiaomi will jump on this trend with a model similar to the Fold, that is, a book type with the screen inside.

As we can read in igao7, a prototype with the Mix logo on the back and a transparent folding screen system has been spotted on the subway.

A hinge system had already been leaked with which Xiaomi could launch this type of device, and, of course, being Xiaomi weird, it would be that they did not do so. They have a model for every kind of user.

The Mix line is the top line in which Xiaomi launched technological innovations. This is how we saw the birth of the different models that had a sliding screen or cantilever sound without a speaker, and the company’s first 5G, among others. It seems that maybe 2021 is the time for Xiaomi to jump into the flexible screen mobile market.

Xiaomi neither confirms nor denies that it is working on this type of device. What should be clear is that the software shown is MIUI and that the Mix logo is shown on the back, let’s add one and one and that each one takes out their conclusions.
